If Veganuary didn’t even make it your radar this January, then National Vegetarian week is the a week where we can all enjoy to take a look at all the wonderful dishes that you can make when you exclude meat and fish from your daily intake.
We’re not advocating any lifestyle or diet changes before anyone thinks that we’re joining a proverbial bandwagon. What we want to do with our platform is show you that no matter what kitchen you have, you can still create amazing dishes in lots of different styles.
Naturally, we are kitchen designers and makers first, but foodies second! After all, that’s what the kitchen is for, making food!
With this national vegetarian week we want to showcase some of the amazing dishes you can make and add to our wonderful May Supper Club.
Starters are prime ingredients for a good vegetarian supper, alone they can also be paired with other vegetables and grains to make interesting first courses as well.
Of course there are seasonal ingredients that you can turn to at this time of the year, like asparagus. For example this great asparagus and goats cheese toast is something that you could rustle up and use as a starter and is even perfect for a BBQ dish for the second bank holiday coming up.
Delicious magazine, our go to for food inspiration also showcases this wonderful Cheese and rosemary honey kadaif which requires some basic preparation but once you have it down, it is a wonderful dish to prepare for a lovely early summer supper.
There are also something’s which are just better when you take basic ingredients and make them into traditional dishes with slight twists that we can all get behind. This, Watercress soup with labneh and spiced oil is precisely that dish. Fresh, light and all the tastes of summer in one bowl.
Jamie Oliver is also backing this week long campaign, we recommend you pay a visit to his site to see what delights he has in store. One dish really stood out, both because it is relatively simple to do but it is also a great BBQ side dish starter that would be perfect for a royal wedding, or FA Cup final… we’ll let you decide who gets to watch want they want!
Wilted spinach with yoghurt & raisins is a great dish with flavours of Turkey and Cyprus, perfect alongside grilled pitta or flatbreads or even a left field food suggestion, grilled halloumi.
These are just some of the suggestions for today’s vegetarian starters. Catch up tomorrow to have some ideas for mains.
